Yes, Mr. Mallethead could have called this gong any variety of names, because he was naming it in honor of Chip and John, pictured left and center in this fine photo taken in Santa Monica California. The other person is Doug, who is John's friend.

The Mallethead has known John and Chip for many years now, somewhere between 10 and 20.

The Mallethead had worked with Chip and John in several jobs, been recommended by and recommended John and Chip. All these jobs were involved, oddly enough, sadly enough, dementedly enough, writing and producing Game Shows, a.k.a. Reality Shows, and even interactive TV.

It is an absurd business and many of the contestants and bosses one deals with in these shows allow the writer to see a side of humanity that is, well, to put it one way (while any other number of ways would work), an open wound in search of bandage... when what that wound really needs is a kidney transplant, Cipro, and an exorcism, at the very least.

But one of the bright elements for the Game Show and Reality Show Writer is a vast accumulation of facts. Your mind becomes a trove of what some people would call "useless information." But these people who claim us Contest Writers' trovish brain is filled with useless information, do not participate in Trivia Nights at local bars.

And win.
Like Chip and John and their pals do.
They are making good use of that information.

Sure, there may be other brains with databases like Chip and John, you don't have to be a Game Show Writer, Reality Show Producer to have this info... but these brains aren't getting this gong named after them.

If you other brains want me to change the name of this gong to something other than honoring these Bonus Rounders, then first, you have to go up against Chip, John and Doug in a Trivia Contest... for the losers shall be face the ultimate elimination... it will be a trivia night to the death!
