Yes, when Chief Redwind used to come down from his perch atop the mountain, from which he had visions, and sounds, and feelings, he would walk amongst his tribe (many of which have now reincarnated and attend Burning Man, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza festivals), and he would speak to them in a language they had never heard before, but could understand perfectly. It was sound AND vision, a primordial mix of tone and mandala. It was as if he presented them with their own mood ring from the emanations of his uvula and larynx and lungs. He was not even conscious of what he was doing for them, lost in trance as he was. Now it was not some variation of Tuvan throat singing, nor was it a kirtan yoga chant, but it was the sound of the center of the Earth as it connects to the center of the Galaxy to the center of the Universe. And it calmed the inner doubts and fears that his people had felt for they felt a future where one day they would end up working in Casinos wearing brass-colored nametags, but they didn't know what it was for they did not even have electricity or buffet lines then. Chief Redwind and his sound inspired them. It made them think that if they could share it with the new white men, they could make their white noise quiet. And so they did what was asked of them, which was to sign the parchments that the white man held out, for the red man assumed that these white pieces of paper were parts of the white man's body and soul they had brought out of themselves, a special magic to share with the red man, to connect as men. But as we now know, the paper was not made of men's souls, it was made of the same energy as the papers on which the future white men (of our time) wrote credit default swaps and subprime mortgages. It was the sound not of the center, but of the end of the earth, the end of the galaxy, the end of the universe.
You and I may never hear this mythic sound of Chief Redwind but we can hearken back to his tone with our 16 inch Wind Gong, made in the same air he once breathed, on our stand, painted the same color as the interior of his teepee.
And from that, you can pause and listen for the center of the Earth, that leads to the center of the Galaxy, that leads to the center of the Universe.
