Songkran is a spring festival, the THAI NEW YEAR festival. Songkran comes from the Sanskrit word "to pass" or "to move into." It is usually held around April 13 to 15, and it is super fun! What started out as a festival of ablution, in which household Buddhas were cleansed, and water rinsed on elders in the village, and temples cleaned, has turned into a raucous, always joyous party! As you can see in the videos we have put with all these THAI GONGS! We feel these Thai Gongs, with the lotus flower design are both spiritual and fun, just like the holiday of Songkran! Now of course that is the Songkran part of the name. What about the PR part for this gong stand? Well, PR are the initials of The mystical Thai Tailor, Prana Rayong. PR, according to Rural Legend, was able to make clothing out of any material, and have it fit and if necessary, look very slimming. PR could make a suit out of dung, wood, even air! He used this amazing ability to make the robe that Buddha wore when he became enlightened! Without his great mystical tailor, would Buddha have become enlightened? We doubt it.
