All of Gongs Unlimited Himalayan Singing bowls are named after one of the Mountains of Himalaya.
The name Makalu is derived from the Sanskrit Maha Kala, a name for the Hindu God Shiva that translates “Big Black” one of the most important gods of Hinduism. Shiva is sometimes an evil, cruel destroyer but at other times he tends to be gentle and kind-hearted. The mountain has another name in the local dialect - Kumba karna, which means The Giant. This beautiful and impressive massive is the fifth highest mountain in the world at 8,485 metres (27,838 ft). It is located in the Mahalangur Himalayas 19 km (12 mi) southeast of Mount Everest on the border between Nepal and China. The isolated peak whose spectacular shape is a four-sided pyramid straddles the border of Nepal and Tibet, a region currently governed by China. The summit itself lies directly on the international boundary.
