Yes, a gong mallet comes with this gong. This is a version of the 22 inch Chau Gong, the classic bullseye design, however what we asked our gong makers to do was NOT polish it. There are several reasons for this. And several effects sonically and energetically. By not polishing off the iron oxide, the gongmakers make sure that the gong is solid and mellifluous coming out of the oven. These gongs need to look good and sound good as their basic level. Also, without polishing the gong, and then hammering it to a specific tone, we get less of a forced pitch or tonal area, and more of a spectrum of overtones that are organic to the brass.
