These Thai gongs are big, heavy and luscious.
Made of bronze, these gongs bring a clear, deep, distinct tone from the nipple, with overtones that fill in the corners of your ear.
Made in the woods outside of Chiang Mai, these Thai Gongs are made by artisans, not factories. They are handmade. Each one. And picked out by a trained musician for us, who travels to Chiang Mai solely for that reason.
We wish we were super fancy recording engineers with a nice studio and the likes, but unfortunately we are not. The Malletheads at Gongs Unlimited are just running a small business and a small family, with a vast imagination. We hope these samples give you enough of an idea to grasp the soul of the gong!
THE PR SONGKRAN GONG STAND IS CONSTRUCTED OUT OF GORGEOUS ALDER WOOD. It is strong, solid and has a nice grain.
Why is it called the PR SONGKRAN Gong Stand?
Songkran is the celebration of Thai New Year in spring. One of the traditional events that takes place during Songkran is song nam phra. That is when Thai people will rinse Buddhas with flower scented water. Another event is called rod nam dam hua. That is pouring water on the hands of monks and older relatives. Of course, nowadays people prefer to have water fights which is more fun... because monks don't look as good in Wet T shirts.
What about the PR part in the name of this stand?
PR are the initials of the gong stand maker, Psionic Richelieu. Yes, that is his given birth name! Is it any wonder that he uses Catholic Telekinesis and French political power to shape and build this magnificent gong stands? Of course not! Not to mention how good he is at giving healings to Crucifixes! See picture below. We are all his Julia Children! To see PR work is to see the forest and the trees and the credenza!
